Beth and Dan met in Spain while walking the Camino de Santiago. They shared a bottle of DYC whiskey when they met, so as an extra special touch, their wedding officiant brought a bottle back for them to share during the wedding ceremony when she visited Spain a few weeks prior to their wedding. Dan proposed to Beth on their one year anniversary at a nice dinner. He gave her a pair of circular earrings symbolizing an engagement ring instead of a ring because he wanted her to be able to choose her own.
Beth and Dan's wedding took place at the Floyd EcoVillage with the loose theme of "An Appalachian Mid-Summer's Night Eve" including a lot of natural elements and twinkling lights. Katherine Chantal, Ordained Priestess, performed a warm spiritual ceremony and handfasting ritual. The cocktail hour took place prior to the actual wedding ceremony where guests had the chance to design and sign Tibetan prayer flags in lieu of a traditional guestbook. After the couple was introduced for their reception, they performed a contra dance as Old Man Kelly and his band played. Prior to their wedding, they told me that their dream wedding would be a joyous, nontraditional occasion filled with their favorite people, good food, and good drinks - which was more than accomplished.
