Quite a few folks have joked around with me about taking 30th birthday cake smash photos, but none every followed through… until Leigh Ann came along, and we got to get CRAZY silly at Hahn Horticulture Garden for hers! We rolled out the sequins, streamers, confetti, a giant hot pink cupcake, balloons, combat boots, and Jack Daniels – you know the regular ol’ birthday cake smash gear.
PS: The key to any successful birthday cake smash is to stay clear of chocolate frosting. [Hint: it looks like poop.]
PPS: Never take yourself so seriously that you wouldn’t smash a giant hot pink cupcake on your face in the middle of a public place while rolling around on a pink sequined tablecloth.
I love watching this sweet girl grow! These are from her first birthday. We tried to get her to smash a cupcake or at least eat it. She was way more interested in running wild throughout The Palisades Restaurant in Eggleston dragging the pink and white balloon garland I made around behind her.
I love these adorable alligator themed pink and green first birthday decorations! This little girl’s mother did such a wonderful job adorning their home. This was the third time this year I got to photograph this cutie pie so it was a huge honor be there and document her first birthday party. It has been so fun to see her grow so much from her newborn session last year, to her 6 month session where she was barely sitting on her own, and to a now fully mobile one year old. She was a huge fan of that cake, in fact I have never seen a child eat so much of their first birthday cake, and she has set the bar high for future cake smash sessions!
Baby Reese was a much more willing participant in her photo shoot this year than she was last year when I took her newborn photos. She was a perfect little model and only tried to escape a couple of times. For her first outfit, Reese wore a dusty rose lace ruffle romper from Elena Rose Bowtique (I unclipped the flower from the romper and used it as a hair accessory) and a string of pearls. For the second half of her shoot, Reese wore a hot pink tutu and a grey beaded necklace that used to be her mom’s. Also can we talk about how awesome her giant birthday cupcake is? The bottom half looks kind of like it is silicone, but it actually has a hard chocolate shell around the cake part. I keep telling her mom that she should go into the wedding cake making business, but I haven’t been able to convince her yet.
