Bill + Emma's Intimate Winery Wedding at Chateau Morrisette | Floyd, Virginia Wedding Photographers

An Intimate Winery Wedding in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia

Emma and Bill came to the small town of Floyd, Virginia for their wedding all the way from New Zealand! As a Floyd native, I am still blown away by how far folks come to see a place that as I child I figured was invisible to the outside world [especially since it is so small it only needs one stop light]. Bill’s family traveled in from New Zealand, Emma’s family came in from Roanoke, Virginia, as well as some friends and family from the UK. Their hope was to gather their loved ones for a beautiful, relaxed, and comfortable celebration surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. When I arrived at Chateau Morrisette, I found Emma’s sister Phoebe carefully finalizing the floral arrangements and wedding decor in the stained glass room of the restaurant. A long, family-style table was draped in a white tablecloth and decorated with pink and white roses along with white candles in silver and mercury glass holders. When Emma arrived with her father, we all gathered in the shade of the large oak tree in front of the Chateau Morrisette restaurant for the wedding ceremony. A string duo played as the bride made her way down the aisle. Emma and Bill’s officiant, Rev. Kanta Bosniak told the story of their relationship so beautifully, she was kind enough to share her words so that I could include them here:

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Bill and Emma and hearing their love story. How they met in New Zealand in 2008, just under 10 years ago, at Bill's place. She was looking for a flat and he a flatmate. Emma came around and they got on really well. Though she ended up moving to a place nearby to work, their great connection was supported by synchronicity. They bumped into each other in a supermarket. Bill gave Emma a ride home and Emma asked him out for a spontaneous adventure. They went to see a movie and really clicked. Bill then asked Emma out for their first official date, to a nice restaurant. It went wonderfully. They both knew they had found their right person and they've been together ever since. Since then they have traveled around the South Island of New Zealand and even went tandem hang gliding together. On April 10, 2017, they got dressed up and went to visit a beautiful historic garden in Christchurch. It was in this beautiful setting that Bill got down on one knee and proposed. He gave her a ring... and they made each other a promise that is fulfilled today.

Lauren + Michael's Chateau Morrisette Wedding

Virginia Winery Wedding Photos

Lauren and Michael met in graduate school at University of Southern California in Los Angeles where they were both teaching sections of the same class.  He recognized her at a coffee shop on campus later on and chatted her up.  As for the proposal, one night as they were about to head to dinner, Michael asked Lauren if he could see her hand while he was holding a Band Aid.  She gave him her right hand, he said “Wrong hand”.  When she handed him her left hand, he put the Band Aid (with her favorite Disney princess, Belle from Beauty and the Beast) on her ring finger, and asked “Will you marry me?”  Obviously she said yes or we wouldn’t be here looking at photos of their gorgeous winery wedding!

All week long the weather report was threatening thunderstorms, but I made a promise to Sally at Chateau Morrsiette that I would bring the sunshine for Lauren and Michael’s wedding and I totally delivered on that promise.  It was such a gorgeous day on the Blue Ridge Parkway!  The very first time I spoke to Lauren, she told me that she and Michael wanted their wedding day to feel intimate and comfortable, as far as I could see, that vision was achieved.  It truly felt more like a warm gathering of friends and family from around the country than a typical wedding day.  How handsome is their “best dog”, Raymond the Corgi-Chihuahua in his little bowtie from Rover The Pet Boutique?  Now let’s talk about the show stopping, jaw dropping, incredible flowers from Mark Frye of Creative Occasions.  He was kind enough to send me this coveted bouquet recipe: Coral Charm Peonies, Juliet Garden Roses, Free Spirit Roses, Peach Stock, Pink Astilbe, Peach Hypericum berries, Green mini hydrangea, Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, Ilse Spray Roses, and White O’Hara Garden Roses.

Erin + Eric’s Chateau Morrisette Wedding

Chateau Morrisette Winery Wedding Photos

Erin and Eric met in 2011 while they were on a camping trip.  Eric proposed on Erin’s birthday while she was sneaking another piece of birthday cake [a girl after my own heart].  Their wedding took place at Chateau Morrisette Winery with an outdoor ceremony followed by an indoor reception in the Morrisette Room.  Erin wore her grandmother’s ring and her grandmother’s blue barrette for her walk down the aisle.  She carried a gorgeous pink, orange, white, and green bouquet prepared by Stonecrop Farm with poppies, dahlias, zinnias, and more.  Their reception had games, an Elvis impersonator that serenaded each table, and ended with a sparkler exit.

Chris + Shari's Fall Chateau Morrisette Winery Wedding

Shari and Chris were married on an unseasonably warm October day at Chateau Morrisette Winery in Floyd, Virginia.  The foliage was radiant that day and so was Shari in her fur stole.  They met at an Irish pub on Shari’s birthday.  Chris proposed one morning after a homemade breakfast.  Shari’s friend made her bouquet with flowers that I believe she said were dipped in porcelain, it weighed a ton, but was SO gorgeous and will be an heirloom that will last forever! When I think of cake pops I typically think of cake balls on the end of a stick that look like a lollipop so I was totally surprised to see the cake pops that Unique Sweets and Accessories brought to this wedding, they were reminiscent of the Flintstones Push Up ice cream treats that I used to eat when I was a kid!  Initially Shari had asked that I take only one photo of her and Photoshop her into the other ones, unfortunately I wasn’t able to accommodate her request, but I think it ended up being relatively painless photo experience for her.

Lisa + Tim's Intimate Chateau Morrisette Vineyard Wedding

Lisa and Tim were married in the vineyard of Chateau Morrisette Winery.  The fog was so thick that day that I could barely see the road on the drive out to the winery.  I thought to myself "this is perfect for taking somewhat creepy, haunting photos in the woods" and I was excited to hear that they felt the same way!  Tim and Lisa came up from North Carolina, they had attended a few festivals and had dinner at Chateau Morrisette before and knew that it would be the perfect location for their elopement.  I loved the dress Lisa chose, it reminds me of Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress from The Seven Year Itch and it went perfectly with her sleek and simple bouquet of white tulips.
