Bill + Emma's Intimate Winery Wedding at Chateau Morrisette | Floyd, Virginia Wedding Photographers

An Intimate Winery Wedding in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia

Emma and Bill came to the small town of Floyd, Virginia for their wedding all the way from New Zealand! As a Floyd native, I am still blown away by how far folks come to see a place that as I child I figured was invisible to the outside world [especially since it is so small it only needs one stop light]. Bill’s family traveled in from New Zealand, Emma’s family came in from Roanoke, Virginia, as well as some friends and family from the UK. Their hope was to gather their loved ones for a beautiful, relaxed, and comfortable celebration surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. When I arrived at Chateau Morrisette, I found Emma’s sister Phoebe carefully finalizing the floral arrangements and wedding decor in the stained glass room of the restaurant. A long, family-style table was draped in a white tablecloth and decorated with pink and white roses along with white candles in silver and mercury glass holders. When Emma arrived with her father, we all gathered in the shade of the large oak tree in front of the Chateau Morrisette restaurant for the wedding ceremony. A string duo played as the bride made her way down the aisle. Emma and Bill’s officiant, Rev. Kanta Bosniak told the story of their relationship so beautifully, she was kind enough to share her words so that I could include them here:

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Bill and Emma and hearing their love story. How they met in New Zealand in 2008, just under 10 years ago, at Bill's place. She was looking for a flat and he a flatmate. Emma came around and they got on really well. Though she ended up moving to a place nearby to work, their great connection was supported by synchronicity. They bumped into each other in a supermarket. Bill gave Emma a ride home and Emma asked him out for a spontaneous adventure. They went to see a movie and really clicked. Bill then asked Emma out for their first official date, to a nice restaurant. It went wonderfully. They both knew they had found their right person and they've been together ever since. Since then they have traveled around the South Island of New Zealand and even went tandem hang gliding together. On April 10, 2017, they got dressed up and went to visit a beautiful historic garden in Christchurch. It was in this beautiful setting that Bill got down on one knee and proposed. He gave her a ring... and they made each other a promise that is fulfilled today.

Chris + Shari's Fall Chateau Morrisette Winery Wedding

Shari and Chris were married on an unseasonably warm October day at Chateau Morrisette Winery in Floyd, Virginia.  The foliage was radiant that day and so was Shari in her fur stole.  They met at an Irish pub on Shari’s birthday.  Chris proposed one morning after a homemade breakfast.  Shari’s friend made her bouquet with flowers that I believe she said were dipped in porcelain, it weighed a ton, but was SO gorgeous and will be an heirloom that will last forever! When I think of cake pops I typically think of cake balls on the end of a stick that look like a lollipop so I was totally surprised to see the cake pops that Unique Sweets and Accessories brought to this wedding, they were reminiscent of the Flintstones Push Up ice cream treats that I used to eat when I was a kid!  Initially Shari had asked that I take only one photo of her and Photoshop her into the other ones, unfortunately I wasn’t able to accommodate her request, but I think it ended up being relatively painless photo experience for her.

Kindell and Patric's Wedding at Owl Hollow Farm in Floyd, Virginia

Kindell met Patric through the fire department where her dad volunteered alongside Patric.  They were introduced by the best man in their wedding, Joe.  For their first date they went to dinner at Hickory Tavern and to see The Hangover, then came back to her house where they stayed up all night talking in her driveway until she had to get ready for work at 6AM.  Patric proposed to Kindell on her favorite beach at the Outer Banks.  He had his cousin go down to the beach and write “Marry Me” in the sand so she would see it when they went to take their dog, Letti, for a walk.

Their Kentucky Derby themed wedding took place at a gorgeous horse farm in my hometown Floyd, Virginia called Owl Hollow Farm.  Kindell, her mother, and her sister practically grew up on the farm there coming into town frequently to ride their horses that are boarded there.  The owners of the farm are basically family to them, one of whom provided Kindell with the charm on the handle of her bouquet that was very special to her.  The awning of the stables provided shelter for Kindell and Patric during the torrential downpours during the wedding.  During the reception, the groom and all of the groomsmen serenaded Kindell and everyone partied so hard that the bride and groom were led out of their wedding in handcuffs by two police officers (take that sparkler exit)!

Kindell's Owl Hollow Farm Bridal Portraits

Equestrian Inspired Bridal Portraits at a Horse Farm in Floyd, Virginia

I met up with Kindell and her mother at Mabry Mill in Meadows of Dan on a foggy summer afternoon for her bridal portrait session.  Afterwards we moved further along the parkway to Owl Hollow Farm in Floyd.  Both Kindell and her mother spent a lot of quality time at this horse farm when they were younger and still visit often to spend time with the horses and their close friends that own the farm which was also the venue for Kindell and Patric’s wedding a few weeks ago.  Her gorgeous dress is by Watters & Watters purchased at L.A. Bridal in Melbourne, Florida.  Mary Jo of Gloriosa in Roanoke created the bouquet which is inspired by the one she made for Kindell and Patric’s wedding day.

Bailey + Jordan's Chateau Morrisette Winery Wedding

Bailey and Jordan were married at the Chateau Morrisette Winery in Floyd, Virginia.  They grew up in the same area, but didn't meet until later in life when they were introduced by their mutual friends.  Jordan proposed in a botanical garden in Florida.  The ceremony took place in the morning followed by a brunch reception.  I am so in love with Bailey's taupe lace Tadashi Shoji dress!  Their wedding decor and flowers were pink and light blue.  Best Wishes put together some beautiful flower arrangements with gerbera daisies and the cake by Confection Connection in Roanoke was topped with the same bride and groom cake topper that was used at Bailey's parents' wedding.  The guests sent Bailey and Jordan off with a bubble exit as they headed off to Ashville, North Carolina for the first leg of their honeymoon road trip.
