While I was in Wilmington, North Carolina last summer, I did a mermaid inspired photo shoot at Wrightsville Beach with some ceramic artwork from Celestial Surf Studio and Handmade Costume Mermaid Bras by Spikey Peach Designs. This gorgeous group of women was kind enough to splash around in the ocean with me.
Chris and Andrew’s wedding took place at an immaculate rock quarry at Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, North Carolina this fall. I arrived incredibly early to the venue (a regular pre-wedding habit of mine) and fell in love with the rocky cliffs and turquoise water easily snapping nearly 200 photos of the rock quarry alone. It was the perfect location for their wedding! The ceremony was held on a sandy area surrounded by the beauty of nature and the love of their families.
Andrew and Chris complement each other so well. They are both extremely kind, intelligent, and absolutely hilarious. Chris did much of the wedding planning (and even the floral arrangements) so the details were all very them – from the Mason jars to the champagne on their sweetheart table was from Thibaut-Janisson Winery in Charlottesville (Chris is a UVA alum).
There was one part of the wedding that absolutely blew my mind that could not be conveyed in photographs... Have you ever heard a string quartet play Nicki Minaj? Crown String Quartet played the most amazing a custom set list ever for this wedding:
Same Love - Macklemore
Just the Way You Are - Bruno Mars
Secrets - One Republic
Some Nights - Fun.
Anything Could Happen- Ellie Goulding

Rude Boy - Rihanna
What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction

Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
Next To Me - Emeli Sandé

Beach Engagement Photos Taken at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head and in Manteo on Roanoke Island
Sarah and Matt met back in 2004 at Campbell University when she was a freshman and he was a junior. They started dating a year later and have been together ever since. I loved traveling down to Nags Head in the Outer Banks for their engagement session, I had been dying to do some beach engagement photos. They are such a sweet couple that they even offered to let me stay at their house, but I decided to get a hotel room. I was in dire need of a “vacation” (yes, of course I did end up working the whole time, that’s just how I roll). I’ll be posting photos of their gorgeous Stillhouse Manor wedding in Hillsville, Virginia soon!
A Fairy Tale Wedding, Complete with a Castle in Asheville, North Carolina
I met Danielle at a bridal expo last fall and we hit it off immediately. By the time I went home she had added me as a Facebook friend and we chatted almost daily about her wedding. This spring I photographed Danielle and Michael’s Virginia Tech engagement session at Lane Stadium and Hahn Horticulture Garden and spent weeks and weeks eagerly anticipating their wedding at Biltmore Estate. How absolutely amazing is Danielle’s blush pink Maggie Sottero “Divinia” wedding gown? She actually won that dress through a contest held by Lynchburg bridal boutique, Celebration Bridal.
A few words from Danielle about their love story…
Michael and I met over a Summer Session at Virginia Tech! There was only one major dining hall serving with an already limited student population, so naturally we met around food. To be specific, it was the whole milk section!
After a year and a half of dating, Michael took me on a surprise trip to the Biltmore Estate. I had always wanted to visit the estate and gardens, and he had chose the perfect spring weekend! After touring the house, walking the gardens, we went up to the Diana statue where he got on one knee and purposed! He was so nervous, he almost forgot to pull out the ring! It was adorable. The thrill of it all was that my best friend from school and drove down to be our surprise photographer! She popped out of the bush almost instantly in tears. It was great to have a friend present! We finished a wonderful day together, going back inside the greenhouses and down to the barn to visit the horses and goats. Rachel soon left after all pictures were taken, to finish with Michael having reservations at the Inn at Estate for dinner with a bouquet of roses waiting at the table. It was such a lovely day, and will always be a great memory!
Upon deciding location, the Biltmore Estate was our first choice! We went for a small and intimate vibe, inviting only our closest family and friends. Our theme was vintage romance, creating a candlelight night amongst the people we love most. The ceremony took place in the Conservatory Greenhouse. It turned out very lovely, many plants and beautiful lights as well as a 12 foot wooden arch covered in roses. After a trolley ride to the Winery, we proceeded to the Champagne Cellar for our reception. The day was beautiful! More fairy tale than we could’ve ever asked for or dreamt of.
