Travis + Gabi's Christmas Themed Wedding at Hotel Roanoke | Roanoke, Virginia Wedding Photographer

Hotel Roanoke, Crystal Ballroom Wedding Photos

Gabi and Travis were introduced by a mutual friend in Gainesville, Florida in 2016.  They hit it off immediately, and 6 months later Gabi packed her bags and moved to Blacksburg to live with Travis.  Travis proposed to Gabi on the top of the mountain at McAfee Knob after a 2 hour hike on the Appalachian Trail.  Their Christmas themed wedding took place on a *freezing* cold afternoon at Hotel Roanoke.  They opted for a quick first look in front of a 100+ year old Magnolia tree at the Magnolia Terrace before their ceremony.  Gabi kept warm by wrapping up in her grandmother’s fur stole and snuggling up next to Travis.

Once we were back inside, I was excited to see that Mike Ellerbrock was their officiant; he worked with my mother years ago and I used to be good friends with his daughter back in elementary school!  The ceremony took place in the Crystal Ballroom of Hotel Roanoke.  It was decorated with green garland wrapped in Christmas string lights, chandeliers, beautiful poinsettias, Christmas trees, and gold Chiavari chairs.  They exchanged very emotional vows where a few tears were shed before sealing the deal with a sweet kiss.  I loved their seating chart – a vintage picture frame with string lights which had beautiful glass Christmas ornaments with each guest’s name and table number.  DJ the DJ from Quest Entertainment did an amazing job with the music [such a great job in fact that it landed him a spot on Nuptial Ninjas aka my list of The Best Wedding Vendors in Southwest Virginia].  The only time the dance floor emptied was so folks could eat delicious wedding cake and when someone pulled a party foul and dropped a glass on the dance floor.  At the end of the night, guests sent off Gabi and Travis with a “Jingle Bell” exit by shaking little Christmas bells as they dashed off to the honeymoon suite.

Sara + Matt's Boxtree Lodge Wedding

I was so excited for the opportunity to photograph Sara and Matt’s wedding with Corey of Skyryder Photography, I hadn’t been to this gorgeous venue since Emily and Brett’s Boxtree Lodge Wedding a few years ago.  It was also wonderful to finally get to work alongside of some of my favorite wedding vendors like Lexi of The Perfect Fairytale who was their wedding planner and Sarah of Pumpernickel Pickle who provided the delicious food [if you ever work with her, make sure you try the donuts with fried chicken on them, HEAVEN).  Thunder crashed throughout the wedding ceremony, but the torrential downpour held off until we were all safely inside of Boxtree Lodge for their wedding reception.  RSP Entertainment did a great job DJing; Corey and I were busting a move to Beastie Boys along with the Mother of the Bride.

The lace detailing on Sara’s ivory wedding gown was to die for, I love the buttons on the back too.  The wedding bouquet by Green Designs in Roanoke had a gorgeous pink, green, white, and ivory color palette with hydrangeas, anemones, roses, and peonies.  Sara and Matt’s chose a delicious naked wedding cake from For The Love Of Sweets with lots of fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries and an etched wood cake topper that said “love” in beautiful calligraphy.  Sara and I are both sparkle and glitter addicts which you might have noticed from the “best day ever” wedding fans, sequined tablecloths, and sparkling strands of light at their wedding reception.  How cute is the bride’s half braid faux hawk?  Major hair envy.

Brittany + Tyler's Roanoke College Engagement Photos

Brittany and Tyler met in high school through mutual friends.  They went to the Hotel Roanoke for Christmas and looked at the trees around the hotel before dinner.  As they were walking up the stairs towards the Regency Room, Brittany turned around Tyler had pulled out the box and said that he would like to ask her something.  He said "Will you marry me?" and opened the box, it was a beautiful ring by Neil Lane that he picked out himself (pictured above in a rose bush).  Brittany and Tyler love to rent movies from Redbox together.  They also love visiting theme parks, especially Busch Gardens.  Another favorite hobby is playing with their dog Nala who also made a cameo in their engagement photos.

We started out their session on the beautiful campus of Roanoke College (seriously, I can't believe this was my first time taking photos there and no one told me how gorgeous it was before now).  Brittany and Tyler's sister had both attended Roanoke College so they knew all the best places for photos and where we could hide once the inevitable thunderstorm came along.  We wrapped things up in front of Salem Presbyterian Church where their wedding will be taking place - I'm so in love with her gorgeous lace dress from the end of the session that she picked up from LOFT!

Roanoke Newborn Photography

Rarely do I get a chance to photograph newborns, but I do love itsy bitsy babies.  My approach to newborns is to capture them in their natural habitat.  I really don't like to put them into poses.  Just babies being sweet little sleepy babies has always been my favorite.

I loved photographing this little doll.  This session was purchased for this beautiful mama from one of my favorite people.  Memories (in the form of photos and photo sessions) make the most wonderful gifts, after all they will last a lifetime.

Vintage Themed Styled Shoot at Explore Park in Roanoke

Earlier this year I participated in a bridal expo in Roanoke.  I ended up meeting and reconnecting with some great vendors so I followed up afterwards to see if they'd be on board to collaborate on a styled shoot.  We went with a vintage theme (that ended up to have a little bit of a Great Gatsby wedding vibe).  The color palette was light blue and emerald green, which was perfect for that velvety green couch from Country Road Vintage Rentals.  The antique globe is from my grandmother's house and I've loved it since I was a little girl - I was so excited to finally be able to incorporate it into a photo shoot!  I've also been dying to see some blue thistle in floral arrangements so when I saw that Gloriosa had included them in the bouquet and the boutonniere I was thrilled.  The Rolls Royce we got to work with from Prestige Limousine was so stunning and pristine that I was afraid to touch it, so gorgeous!
