Where to Have Your Photos Printed | Advice from Your Friendly Photographer

Please, Please, Please Tell Me You Print Your Photos...  If you are guilty of letting them sit on your hard drive and never hanging them on the walls of your home, I am hoping to motivate you into having some of your favorites printed so they can be enjoyed by you and your family.  Check out this piece from Design Aglow about How Family Portraits Boost Your Child’s Self-Esteem.  Below are some of my favorite places to have my photos printed (in addition to ProDPI which is my go-to professional lab).

Photo Books, Albums, and Ready to Hang Photo Art
Artifact Uprising offers a pretty wide selection of unique ways to print your photographs.  Best of all, most of their products are ready to be displayed immediately in your home, no need to order frames.  Their acrylic float frames are my newest obsession, you can have your photo printed on a wooden box, and their photo books have a custom dust jacket and remind me of being in a library.  Artifact Uprising uses recycled materials and reclaimed wood to create their environmentally friendly products.  Their designs are a beautiful and minimalistic way to display your photos throughout your home.

Holiday Cards and Wedding Invitations
If you want to have highly personalized holiday cards or wedding invitations, my go-to is Minted.  Their selection of card designs is unbelievable.  The designs are submitted by independent artists and curated through competitions.  They have a lot of different card options with a gorgeous gold foil, if you like shiny things as much as me.

Traditional Photo Prints
When it comes to regular photo prints that I want to order a larger quantity of, I always order from AdoramaPix.  I have been a customer of theirs for years.  The print quality is wonderful, the customer service is superior, prints are affordable, and shipping is free on orders over $49.  I order my prints on their matte paper with a white boarder because something about that little white border makes it feel extra special.

Business Cards
Moo Cards are my favorite, you can have a different photo on every single card if you want. Moo cards are a creative entrepreneur/photographer's dream because you are carrying around a mini printed portfolio with you wherever you go.  You can share your best work any time your business comes up in conversation, which will be a long conversation because they'll be wowed by your business cards.  Added perk: if someone takes a card with an image they personally selected, it is a lot less likely to be thrown in the trash.

Blacksburg Maternity Portrait Photographer | Charmaine + Bryan

Charmaine is one of the most beautiful, talented, and sweetest people I have ever met.  She is the owner of CharMarie Salon in Christiansburg [check out the vendor feature I did shortly after her shop opened a couple of years ago] and one of my favorite beauty gurus of all time.  I discovered her through Twitter years ago and we were able to team up for some glamour photos [she did hair and makeup for Taylor’s glamour portraits and Ladonna’s glamour portraits], a boudoir session, and a “garden party” inspired styled shoot.  It is always an honor to work creative girlboss masterminds like her.

When Charmaine announced that she and her super sweet and supportive husband Bryan were going to have a little one I was so excited, I insisted on taking some maternity photos for her.  Despite the fact that she herself is a total creative genius, she was kind enough to let me take the lead and do the planning for her photo session.  I made her a couple of flower crowns – one of purple, blue, and green lacecap hydrangeas and one of pink and green spray roses and we ventured up to Mountain Lake in Pembroke, Virginia where Dirty Dancing was filmed.  A couple weeks before the shoot I had spotted the perfect little thicket of ferns for this radiant goddess.  Thank you Charmaine for trusting my vision and allowing me to commemorate this extra special time in you and Bryan’s lives!

Laura's Maternity

Laura is the most radiant mother-to-be, glowing and gorgeous!  I bought this vintage peignoir set on eBay ages ago and have had it stowed away for the perfect occasion and I’m so glad that she was willing to indulge all of the strange requests I had for her to try out for her maternity photos.  She was also down for pouring all of the milk she had in her house into the tub for a milk bath and let me rip her bouquet of roses to pieces so we could have some beautiful rose petals floating around, thankfully I think the risk was worth the reward.  While Ryan wasn’t planning on being incorporated in the photo session, we had to pull him in for a few shots really quick since we were walking through the very spot in this field where he had proposed to Laura.  Come back and check my blog soon for some really precious newborn photos, I promise they won’t disappoint – you can check out the preview on my Facebook page to hold you over!

Renee + Jason's Blacksburg Maternity Photos

Renee and Jason are the sweetest, most laid back couple.  We got together back in the fall for some maternity portraits around Blacksburg and the campus of Virginia Tech.  It was a beautiful crisp and warm afternoon, yet somehow we seemed to have everywhere we went all to ourselves to meander around enjoying the beautiful fall foliage.

Meghan + Doug's Blacksburg Maternity Session

I was so thrilled when one of Meghan’s friends contacted me (all the way from New York) to request a maternity session gift certificate.  Photo sessions are such a brilliant gift idea, especially for expectant mothers, I know that I would have been so excited if I had received one as a gift when I was pregnant with my son!  Meghan had the option to redeem her gift certificate for either a newborn session or maternity photos so she chose to have a maternity session at her beautiful home.  Doug and Meghan have a huge yard with a couple old barns that I instantly fell in love with.  They are such an amazing and fun couple, they are going to be such wonderful parents in just a few weeks!
